years of hard work and unsuccessfulness at nationals, and we pulled
through with a win on my last junior event. Glad to have finally done
justice to the dedication and money my family has put into me. Grateful
that Xiang, my partner, through thick and thin has stood by me and
believed we could do this, giving me the confidence to win this one and
only national doubles title with him. Thank you to everyone that
supported us and coaches back home. Thank you big brother for always
coaching me through every event- letting you down most times 😂, always

Tyzton's thoughts on winning his doubles gold at the under 19's nationals. I know he has always counted on big brother Jaz to coach and guide him. Theirs is such a good relationship and I am so proud of my family.

After dinner we were invited to the Chens for dessert.
At the Chens, the boys did a video to thank the NSW parents and girls and the officials.

The finals
Dear readers
Today was another exhausting day.
Kai Chen and Xiang started the day with their finals. It was so good to see 2 WA boys in the finals.
I had also learned how to live stream on facebook.
Xiang had no problems winning younger Kai Chen 21/19 and 21/17.
This was his first gold towards a possible triple crown.
The next game was the ladies singles which was won by Joy Lai again.
Following that, there was the mens doubles with Xiang and Tyz against the Tristan brothers.
This was a harder fight than the singles. Xiang and Tyz won the first set 21/19. However in the 2nd set, they seemed to be dreaming and lost 11/21.
The 3rd set was a nailbiter with Xiang and Tyz trailing. They finally broke through and won at 21/17 after coaching from YQ and Jaz.
Xiang was now the owner of 2 golds.
In the mixed doubles, Xiang went down with Victoria He in 2 sets against Joy Lai and Justine.
That meant Joy got her triple crown. Xiang will have to try again next year.
After the game the players had a 2 hr recreational event. We were there as parents watching the kids enjoy themselves befre saying their goodbyes.
Nancy Lowe organised dinner for the WA team and the NSW parents. After dinner we were invited to the Chen's home to chill.
It has been a good tournament for Tyz.
I still remember holding him at his first nationals at the Under 15s event. He was then just 13. He lost his plate mixed doubles and that was the end of the tournament for him and he started crying. He cried for 10 minutes with me holding him before he turned around and asked what was for lunch.
He told me he was going to try harder and I knew he would.
He went on to captain the Under 15s team to win WA's first silver for a long time. He got the silver doubles medal with Xiang against HD and Justin Lee. He also win his first Mixed doubles gold with Joy Lai as his partner.
He went on to captain the history making WA team winning bronze in the Under 17s in New Zealand. We went to the lion's den and played against the biggest number of NZ teams and came back with a bronze.
What had eluded him was a doubles national gold and today he got what he had been fighting for for 6 years. I am so proud of him and how his older brother Jaz coaches and supports him.
I thought I had finished with helping in state teams as he was old enough to go on his own. However, he asked his mum if we were supporting him in his last year in Juniors. We had no choice but to agree. So the whole family came to support him.
I am so glad I did as he made me a very proud father.
I was told by my wife Annie that after winning the gold, he went into a corner and had a good cry.
This is the end of the badminton national journey for me. I have done this for 6 years. I have cried, I have laughed, I have blogged and cooked, I have shouted myself hoarse cheering the team.
At the end, it has been a sweet journey. I think I will have to continue blogging for the other tournaments as non of the parents seem to want to.

Young Alicia who is still able to play in the Under 15's has had a tough personal journey in this tournament.
She did however help the team to win the bronze medal.
In the individual, she lost to Ysabel Say 21/14 and 21/8. She went to the plate and lost to Nuha in. 2 sets.
In the doubles she partnered Rebecca Thomas losing in 2 sets to Vic He and Maggie Chen.
They lost to Almazan and Amelia in the plate in 2 sets.
In the mixed, she partnered Pickles losing to Chloe Low and Elton Zhang in 2 sets.
They went to the plate winning Thomas Green and Duhig in 3 sets.
They lost to Oscar Jap and Mashalisides in 2 sets.
That is the end of the tournament for Alicia. I am sure she will do much better at the Under 15's after this experience.
