The creation of the Under 19s Badminton Blog

Dear friends and readers,

I have just been informed through the grapevine that Andrew Chai has agreed to nominate to be the coach for the 2014 Under 19s WA Badminton state team.

Of course all this will have to be ratified by the BAWA board. There may be other nominees and it will be interesting to see who else nominates.

His wife Gillian has agreed to be the manageress. Again BAWA has to ratify the nomination.

We all need to be grateful that they have both stepped up to take the baton.

Hence, this is the first blog for the Under 19s team in honour of Andrew and Gillian in anticipation that their nominations will be accepted.

I have never been actually involved in the Under 19s team. My son Jazton was in the 2011 Under 19s team  that went to Sydney. They returned with a bronze medal with the coaching of Nick Kidd.

The 2013 team also returned with a bronze medal under the coaching of Ryan Lin.

This year, the competition is taking part in WA.

The Under 19 National competition is one of the oldest national events on the Badminton Australian national calendar of events. Established in the 1960’s the competition provides valuable national tournament experience for Australia’s top under 19 badminton players.

A bit about Andrew. He is badminton crazy and runs the Samson Victor Badminton club with Gillian. I have been playing at the club on Fridays for a few years.

My sons have nominated for the 2014 Under 19s team. The tryouts are on this Sunday. Good luck to both sons.
