BadmintonWAUnder 19s: The first day of team events for the Scorpions

It was not a great start for the Scorpions as they met the No. 2 seeded team.

For the players in their first WA state team, it would have been dis-heartening to play Vic in their first ever state team.

I know the feeling as my boys played Vic in their first ever state team in their first ever under 15s tournament. The questions in your mind as to your standard and how it measures up will keep you awake tonight.

Stay strong Scorpions, this experience will make you strong and make you realise what you need to do to make it to national level badminton playing.

Remember, most of the players in Scorpions are still able to play in the under 15s and Under 17s tournament. Enjoy the opportunity to play against these older and more experienced players.

The afternoon was better for the Scorpions as they beat South Australia 10/6.

SA has been quite strong for the last few years as they had a couple of brothers who were very strong.

Some of the Scorpions players would have felt the thrill of winning their first national match. Savor that feeling and drag it back next time you are in a tough spot.

I am sure Seryna, Natasha, Adhya and Esther having experienced their first state team will go on to be strong state players.

The Scorpions will meet the President's team tomorrow.

As you know, my son Tyz is coaching the President's team. He is staying with the Scorpions team and relying on their hospitality. He called me today and said he was concerned he would not be fed by the Scorpions parents if his President's team beat the Scorpions. I told him not to worry as the parents of the Scorpions team will know he is just doing his job.

The President's team beat SA 11/5 and lost to Vic 12-4. On paper, it looks like the Scorpions have a fight tomorrow. Good luck to both teams.
