The finals

Dear readers

We have Xiang and KC in the BDs. Xiang is also in the singles finals against K Edison. Xiang is also in the mixed doubles with Vic He. Can he get the triple crown?

It was not to be despite all his hard work. I think he must be exhausted after fighting for WA in the team event. I know Xiang gives his best in the team events. He will fight till he is on the floor.

So, in the afternoon he was tested against K Edison. Keith got the better of Xiang winning in 2 sets crushing Xiang's dream of a triple crown.

Xiang had to look to his doubles with KC. He did not disappoint. They had 2 easy sets at 21/17 and 21/13 against Arrik Ang and M Loi.  Congrats Xiang and KC.

Xiang then had to play the mixed. They played P Yan and L Lim.The fiorst set was won at 21/14. Xiang then went missing and lost the 2nd set at 10/21. Luckily he came back and finished the game at 21/17. Good work.

He is the owner of 2 Under 19s gold again this year. We have to look forward to KCgetting the triple next year.

For everyone in the WA team, this is the end of the tournament. Many lessons have been learned. Many victories savoured and some losses suffered.

Congrats to all the players and the officials who were there. Thanks to the supportive parents too. Till the next Under 19s , good night.

The 3rd day of individuals

 Dear readers

Just catching up after a busy weekend.

The 3rd day of individual events was quite eventful. There were a few heart aches as many of the players finished their involvement in  the tournament.

Mens singles:

SunYee fought I Ong for 3 sets but had to concede his plate run.

KC beat John Wang in 2 sets before meeting Edison in the semis. Edison proved too strong and beat KC in 3 sets. Xiang also had a 3 set win against Peter Yan. He now meets Edison in the finals.
Both finalists will be tired and it will be the stronger man who will win.

Womens singles:

Alicia went to the plate final but had to bow out in 2 sets to Amelia Lowe.

BDs:

WA had 3 teams in the quarters. All are Yuli Zheng's students.

Jasper and his partner P Yan were not able to contain K Edison and J Wong losing in 2 sets.

Xiang and KC had no problem beating R Foo and R Tang in 2 easy sets. They then met K Edison and J Wong in the semis. They beat them in 2 close sets to progress to the finals. Jason and Sunyee also had to bow out in the qtrs losing to Marcus Lin and Elton Zhang in 2 sets.

GDs

Anjali and C Yap lost to TGay and Alicia in 2 sets for the plate. Alicia and her partner went to the plate final but lost in 2 sets to A Liu and Phoebe.

WA wins the bronze in the 2017 CP Maddern

Dear readers

It was a hard fought battle today. WA emerged victorious against SA.

We have fought against SA so many times just to get a medal standing. Luckily, most times WA wins. You can almost feel bad for the SA players.

However, it was WA's day today.

Things looked good the moment SY Choong and Alicia won their singles games. Alicia should be  congratulated for hanging in there and finally winning the 3rd set 22/20 despite losing the first set at 19/21.

However, things looked bad when Xiang lost in 2 sets to Keith Edison. Xiang must be very tired now having played hard for WA the last few days.  I hope he recovers soon so that he can face the individuals.

The team got back their mojo and fought well.

All the players are to be congratulated for giving their all for WA. Their parents should be proud. I can imagine the tension felt by the parents watching the game or even just looking at the scores on wechat.

The players who have won their first national medal will stand proud. I hope this pushes them to greater heights in badminton.

The umpire, coach and manager have held the team up and pushed them to victory. It is a bronze medal, but it is still a medal as it was won despite not having a full team and having to borrow Phoebe from NSW. Thanks to Phoebe and her parents for sending her to WA again.

Now for the individuals. Good luck all.
