Dear readers.
The Under 19s had their President's Cup Challenge today at Armadale.
Their challenger was the Senior's team or part of the senior's team as they had a few missing players.
Teagan was also missing from the Under 19s team. However we had the Nichols sister Julia and Geri May taking her place.
It was a close fight between the 2 teams. The Under 19s team finally triumphed after playing 22 matches and winning 14 of the matches.
Many of the players showed true grit. Jasper went 3 sets against his much older and experienced opponent Jason Nolan. He lost the first set but came back to win the 2nd and 3rd sets. Jasper is getting so much match experience in this last 12 mths of his young life. It will do him good in his badminton future.
Xiang despite being sick went fighting 3 sets with William Thwe but had to succumb to William.
Amanda played in her first match for WA Under 19s in her singles against Jenny Ko. She lost the first set at 22/22 through inexperience. Her 2nd set was not as close and I could see her disappointment. She will learn so much and improve so much after this month. The Under 19s carnival will lift her game and standards to a level she has never felt before.
The parents of the Under 19s team provided great sustenance for all the players. The kitchen had an assortment of goodies for all the players. This was organised by the ever able Jillian.
The surprise of the day was Coach Andrew who brought his PA and music system to the hall. He provided great entertainment with his singing. It was quite surreal listening to music sung by Andrew while playing or watching badminton.
Maybe he will start a new trend. Musical Baddie.
Julie , our Past President was at hand to encourage, umpire and present the President's Cup ti the winning Under 19s team.
The Under 19s Nationals start next Sat. Good luck to the team.
