Dear readers
It was a nailbiter bronze fight. I had been following the results on tournament software.
Ryan and KC lost in 3 sets just like Bernice and Janice. Luckily Sunyee and Ryan won their singles in 2 sets bringing WA closer to bronze.
Janice fought another 3 setter and had to concede. She will have given all for WA.
Likewise Sunyee had a 3 setter and lost the final set on deuce. Jason also lost a 3 setter against I Ong. Both players will have played their hearts out for WA.
At 1 stage WA was 2 sets behind. In between my client interviews , I was following the game on youtube.
Bernice and KC also fought their hearts out winning their singles in 3 setters.
WA is now 8/6 ahead after wins in MXD by both twins and their partners. There has been many 3 setters some going WA's way and some SA's way.
Alicia and Ryan survived another 3 setter in their mix to bring WA closer to a bronze. Jasmin and Janice with their partners Sunyee and Jason confirmed the bronze for WA with their 2 sets wins.
The final score was 10/6 in WA's favour.
There had been a few times that SA has grabbed bronze from WA to the dismay of Ryan Tan and the Tan twins.
Today Ryan and the twins get their first state medal after many brave attempts and never giving up. Their courage and their parent's support have seen them triumphant. As for Marcus, I think this is his first state team and his first medal. Congrats all.
All the players gave everything for WA and the president and umpire Lily Buttrose must be very proud of her young charges.
This may also be a first state team medal for manager Sok Teoh. Good on him and his support for his children.
Ryan Lin has done a great job keeping the team motivated in the absence of their coach Yuli who could not travel.
Now they have to prepare for the individual events.
KC is seeded 2nd in singles and 1st in doubles with his mixed and doubles playing with Kelly Xu and Peter Yan. Jason is seeded 4th in singles. He has improved so much.
Jason and Sunyee are seeded 2nd in doubles. Good luck boys.
Just had a look at the draw and was surprised to see a WA under 15s National champ Johny Kok taking part in the singles. Good luck Johny.
Good luck girls too.
